Oncology Professional Care is proud to, once again, host the oral screening booth at the two-day event on 21-22 May 2024 at ExCeL London.

Spearheaded by The Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Support Group in collaboration with the Mouth Cancer Foundation and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, this invaluable service gives delegates the opportunity to undergo screening for early signs of cancer or precancerous conditions. This initiative aims to raise awareness about head and neck cancer and emphasise the critical importance of early detection.

Chris Curtis, Chief Executive Officer of The Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Support Group, said: “Last year’s oral screening was such a success with 17.5% of people screened being referred for further investigation, which is frightening if you think that the delegates were healthcare professionals. We need to continue to raise awareness around head and neck cancer and the importance of early diagnoses and what signs to look for.”

This initiative follows the success of the 2023 event, where 17.5% of screened delegates were referred for further investigation. Notably, 2 in 5 individuals reported experiencing one of the symptoms of head and neck cancer, such as tooth and gum problems (18%), bleeding in mouth, nose, or ear (7%), and sore or ulcer in the mouth (7%).
